Program Description
ShreveCorps is an AmeriCorps National Service Program focusing on cleaning and remediating public unused lots throughout Shreveport.
ShreveCorps Member Role
Complete a full term of service (300 hours)
Remediate and beautify unused lots in low-income zip codes
Litter & Debris removal
Lifting up to 25 pounds
Work as a team with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers as well as new members
Engage in Household Hazardous Waste events
Participate in the Bi-Annual tree giveaways
ShreveCorps Eligibility
Minimum of 17 years of age by the day of enrollment
U.S citizen, U.S. National, or a lawful permanent resident of the United States
Have a high school diploma or working to obtain one, or equivalent
Maintain a positive attitude
Willingness to work outdoors in the elements
Work as a team with individuals from diverse backgrounds
No prior experience is required
ShreveCorps is a national award-winning program and has been recognized by President Clinton, Governor Blanco, Louisiana Senators Breaux and Landrieu, Innovations in Civic Participation (ICP), and the American Association of State Service Commissions (ASC) as one of the Most Innovative AmeriCorps Programs in the United States. Benefits
ShreveCorps members will receive a biweekly living allowance and an education award upon completion of their term. This award may be used to help pay off student loans or to finance college, graduate school, or vocational training. Beyond these benefits, members will learn new skills, take on new responsibilities, and know the satisfaction of making a difference in their community.
